Jelutong Reclamation

Jelutong Reclamation Section B, C and D are parts of reclamation works to increase the land area for the island of Penang.  Jelutong Reclamation is located in Penang, Malaysia and bounded by Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu to the West and surrounded by the Penang Straits to the North, East and South.  The Project site is in Selat Selatan and can be accessed from western coastal part of the site along Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu.  The reclamation works for Section B and C, covers an estimated area of 88-acres and had been completed in year 2013.  While the reclamation for Parcel B1-1B and A2-2, which are part of Section D covers approximate area of 11-acres are ongoing and targeted for completion in May 2023.

Technical Description

EDP Consulting Group Sdn. Bhd. was appointed as the Design and Build Engineer for all 3 Sections of the reclamation works. Our dedicated team was involved in providing consulting engineering services for Geotechnical and Reclamation services mainly consisting of ground treatment works, shore protection works, reclamation works, site supervision and providing technical advice for other associated works.

The site is underlain by marine clay which the soft clay thickness of up to 6m thick.  In view of the soft compressible marine clay, Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) with temporary surcharge was adopted as the ground treatment approach to expedite the dissipation of excess pore water pressure generated from the reclamation works and to eliminate the long-term consolidation settlement. For the shore protection system, rock revetment is proposed for both temporary and permanent shore protection system.
