Gravit8 is situated at Kota Bayuemas, a township which is proximate to the busiest port in Malaysia, the Klang West Port. Gravit8 is an approximate 14-acres lakefront mixed development which comprises of a shopping mall, retail shops, serviced apartments and corporate offices. The mixed development is strategically linked to the Pulau Indah Highway which is then connected on to the Shah Alam Expressway or commonly known as Konsortium Expressway Shah Alam Selangor (KESAS) one of the major expressways linking West Port to Kuala Lumpur. Gravit8 Phase 2A and Phase 2B consist of 682 units and 635 units of serviced apartments respectively nestled within 4 blocks of 32 storey towers sharing a common 6-storey high podium car park. On top of the podium carpark is a 3-acres of amenities deck.
Technical Description
The lakefront mixed development site is underlain by marine clay formation as thick as 30m of soft clay. Groups of 600mm diameter high strength precast prestressed spun pile were adopted to support the columns of residential tower together with the 300mmx300mm reinforced concrete square pile for the podium car park with an objective to minimise the overall construction cost. A post-tensioned transfer slab was introduced at the pool deck level to support the shear wall of the typical floors.
One of the project highlights for the Gravit8 development is the cylindrical floor to ceiling in-mall saltwater aquarium which is approximately 6.0m diameter along with a water depth of 4.5m. EDP is proud to be involved as the designer for the aquarium’s centre reinforced concrete core wall and its foundation. The civil infrastructure works for drainage systems, roads, water main, sewerage treatment plant, etcetera along with mechanical and electrical utilities were designed to meet the requirements of the development as well as the local authority guidelines and standards. The civil infrastructure works for the mixed development focal point which is its lake park covering over an approximate land area of 8-acres were also undertaken by EDP as well.
Project Highlights, Achievement and Recognition:
- First of its kind giant salt-water aquarium of 6.0m diameter and a water depth of 4.5m that has the capability of accommodating a “mermaid” performance within the Klang Valley area.
- Foundation in 30m thick soft marine clay for high-rise structure of 32 floors.
