Hino Motors Ltd., Japan, appointed EDP Consulting Group Sdn. Bhd. as the civil & structural and mechanical & electrical consultant for their first state of the art manufacturing facility in Malaysia. The 170,000m2 site is located in Sendayan Tech Valley, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. It’s a strategic location including its close proximity to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Malaysia’s main international airport, Port Klang and easy access to highways. This state-of-the-art manufacturing plant is also the third largest in Southeast Asia after Thailand and Indonesia, targeted with an annual production of 10,000 units of Hino products comprising of light, medium and heavy-duty trucks as well as buses for the Malaysian market.
Technical Description
According to the Client’s specification and requirement, a column span of 20mx20m was required to accommodate the truck assembly line over a 120mx160m main factory building. Taking into consideration the fast-track nature of the project, precast reinforced concrete columns were proposed and engineered to support the steel roof truss.
A 2-storey reinforced concrete administration office building was included within the main factory. A viewing deck is accessible from level 1 to oversee the entire manufacturing facility. A navigation tower of approximately 40m high was built to provide visual attention from a distance to visitors or passer-by.
Project Highlights, Achievement and Recognition:
- Single direction roof flow direction of 120m long and utilisation of Siphonic System to minimise the gutter size and reduce the numbers of rainwater water down pipe.
- Introduction of fire escape tunnel to comply with Fire Department’s requirement and at the same time drawing cool air to ventilate the plant area.
- 3rd largest Hino Manufacturing Plant in South East Asia, 2014.
